The Tritiya Tithi (third day) of Vaishakha, Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the Lunar cycle) is referred to as Akshaya Tritiya. It is one of the most important days in the Hindu calendar. Deemed as auspicious from start to finish, Akshaya means 'one that never diminishes' or 'the unending one'. Therefore, people do good deeds on this day, make donations to charity, and buy precious metals and jewels.
This festival also marks the birth anniversary of Lord Parashuram, the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu. Moreover, it is said to be the day when Shri Krishna's poor friend Sudama became a wealthy man. Furthermore, Draupadi, the wife of the Pandavas, was gifted with the Akshaya Patra or the food pot with an endless supply of food.
